Pleated Card

I was inspired to create a pleated card from Dawn Easton's card I found online.  We (crafters) are so fortunate that so many share their work.

Stampin' Up! Products
  • Whisper White cardstock
    • Card base measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
    • Card layer measures  3 1/4" x 3 1/2.  This is shorter than the Regal Rose card layer; bottom part of the pleats are not glued down to the bottom of this layer. (Frugal paper saver)
  • Chocolate Chip cardstock
    • Strip measures 3 1/4" x 1/2"
  • Regal Rose cardstock
    • Card layer measures 3 1/2" x 4 3/4"
    • Punch out a heart from this layer (Frugal paper saver)
  • Loves Me Designer Series Paper (retired)
    • Pleat - begin with a piece measuring 6 5/8" x 2"
    • Score
    • Accordian pleat - using bone folder, crease each pleat (both sides of paper)
  • Trust God stamp set
  • Chocolate Chip ink
  • Full Heart and Small Heart hand punches
  • Dimensionals
If you plan on making a number of these cards, cut your pleat strip a multiple of two inches, score, pleat and cut strips into 2" width strips.  Example:  I am making three cards, I will cut the cardstock at 6 5/8" x 6".

Scoring
  • Follow this sequence - Score 3/4", 1 1/8", 2 1/8", 2 1/2", 3 1/2", 3 7/8", 4 7/8", 5 1/4", 6 1/4"
  • What is the sequence?
    • After first score, add 3/8" (which is 1 1/8")
    • Next add 1" (which is 2 1/8")
    • Next add 3/8" (which is 2 1/2")
    • Next add 1" (which is 3 1/2")
  • See the pattern?  This scoring pattern can be followed to make a wider pleated section.
Your finished pleat section may not be as wide as the Whisper White/Regal Rose card layer measurements mentioned above.  *Please refer to the seventh picture below.  The stamped image layer may need to be trimmed a scant 1/8".  If you trim the width of the Whisper White cardstock, you will have to do the same to the Regal Rose layer.

Picture 1 - I started with a piece of DSP measuring 6" x 6 5/8"
Picture 2
Picture 3 - Once you have pleated the DSP, place into your paper trimmer.  First press out folds, then cut.  This step is skipped if you started with a piece of paper measures 2" x 6 5/8".
Picture 4
Picture 5 - Adhesive is applied in each of the folds on the backside of the DSP.

Picture 6 - Place strip of Chocolate Chip cardstock over top of pleated DSP.

Picture 7 - *The pleated IS NOT attached yet to the Whisper White cardstock.  As you can see, the pleated section is not has wide as the Whisper White layer.  This is where you trim the Whisper White cardstock.  The Chocolate Chip layer will be trimmed after the adjustments below.

Picture 8 - Once your Whisper White and Regal Rose layers are trimmed to fit the finished pleats; adhere the Whisper White to the Regal Rose cardstock.  Can you see where I punched out the heart to save paper?

Picture 9 -  Trim Chocolate Chip cardstock strip if necessary.  Apply adhesive to the back of the pleat section; however, do not apply adhesive on the bottom of the section.  This will give the bottom of the pleats more dimension.   Attach the pleated section to the Whisper White/Regal Rose layers.  I placed Dimensionals under this layer and attached it to the card base.  Dimensionals are placed on the back of the hearts and applied as the final step to this card.
