Painterly Pears Designer Series Paper Tutorial - Shadow Blocking Card Layout

This is my first card featuring the Painterly Pears Designer Series Paper . The paper’s rich, vibrant colors really drew me in.

The latest card layout I tried is called the Shadow Blocking Card Layout. It involves using one-inch squares arranged meticulously. The shadow is dark enough which allowing the focus to stay on the subtle designs. The card layer itself uses just one-inch by twelve-inch strips of DSP, with the top layer composed of twelve individual one-inch pieces. To ensure the pattern flows seamlessly across the card, all the squares are cut from a 3" x 4" piece of card layer, creating a cohesive and visually appealing design.

Introducing my custom 3D layering tool! Crafted with magnets beneath the tray, I use magnetic knobs from Amazon to securely hold each layer in place, making your crafting process smoother and more precise.

Brother ScanNCut meets Shadow Blocking

If you know you know. The newest popular card layout; Shadow Blocking. I created a template that helps lay down each 1” square perfectly.

The template was made using Brother ScanNCut software CanvasWorkspace. I have about twelve hours (and a trash can full of scrap paper) in the project. I self taught myself; a great way to keep my mind working.

Check back for how I embellish the card front.

Stampin' Up! Glass Mat Upgrade

Stampin' Up! Glass Mat

I purchased the Stampin' Up! glass mat and decided to supercharge it with magnets! The magnets are a game-changer; they help keep your card layers perfectly aligned during gluing, eliminating any shifting or slipping. If you don’t have a glass mat, you’re missing out on how easy cleanup is; I simply wipe mine with alcohol prep pads (HERE) for a quick, spotless finish.

Magnetic Glass Mat

To magnetize my glass mat, I attached two steel metal plates to the back using clear shipping tape from Amazon HERE.—just be careful with the sharp edges. You can find these steel plates on Amazon as well, linked HERE

I used magnets with knobs, which I purchased in two sets; one set might be perfect for you. You can buy the magnets HERE. To protect the paper from the knobs, I laminated business cards and glued the knobs on top.

Now you have a professional, step-up glass crafting mat! The provided links are to my Amazon Affiliate Account, so it doesn’t cost you more to buy through these.

You can get the Glass Mat directly from Stampin’ Up!; just choose me as your Demonstrator, Beth Adams. Click HERE to buy. When you purchase from me, you get to choose either one of my DSP tutorials or three individual card designs ($4.95 each) from my blog. I’ll follow up with you after your purchase.

Paper Pumpkin - Inked Occasions April 2025

I'm finally rediscovering my passion for crafting. Over six months' worth of Paper Pumpkin kits have been sitting untouched, cluttering up space. But now, I’m back to creating and loving every minute of it. Paper Pumpkin is truly the best way to dive into crafting; I’ve been making cards since 2008, and I always look forward to receiving a new stamp set and crafting challenge each month. I love that I have a 12-month subscription, and I can skip any month if it doesn’t catch my interest—that flexibility is a lifesaver. The monthly hints about what’s coming up are helpful to see if I’ll enjoy the kit, fitting perfectly with my style.

This is a hint to June's kit.

In April 2025, the Inked Occasions kit included three card designs with enough supplies to make nine cards—but I went a step further and used the card bases to create eighteen cards. Crafting has become so much more fun and fulfilling again!

This is my Four-Quadrilateral Layout Card. The diagram and measurements are available for $4.95. I also created a Brother ScanNCut file - all the measurements are done for you, just place you cardstock on your cutting mat and click start. Please be sure to let me know if you want the Canvas Workspace cut file I created for my Brother ScanNCut.

How do I use it my Brother ScanNCut - Example #1

This is an easy card layout, and I took it a step further to make things even simpler. Being frugal, I wanted to save on cardstock and time, so I created a simple cut file using Canvas Workspace. Here's what the cut file looks like: I created two separate rectangles and grouped them together. The machine then cuts out the outline along with the center, making assembly quick and efficient.

Oh the crafting possibilities with a Brother ScanNCut Machine . . .

No more cutting layers, no more marking your cardstock, card making made easy. This is my faux die created with Brother ScanNCut/Canvas Workspace (cwprj and .fcm files) is available for purchase for $6.95. It includes cut files and information pictures of the files mentioned below. Life made easy! No more expensive dies! Invest in a Brother ScanNCut machine, my affliliate link is HERE. I use the SDX85C model. You can find so many resources on YouTube to get you started using the machine, it takes time but it is so worth it. Once you've mastered the basic steps, come back here and check out my tutorial on how to create your own faux dies using your stamp sets. EMAIL me for more information.

There are so many crafting possibilities when you learn how to use your BSNC machine. I own the Nested Friends stamp set and created BSNC files to cut out blank birds and it is easy to stamp directly on the cutouts, no more fussy cutting. Do you have trouble getting the best stamped image because of juicy ink pads, especially when stamping ten or twenty birds? You don't need to stamp each one - I have a master sheet of the stamped bird image; I simply put any colored cardstock into my printer and print as many birds as I need. I use the BSNC to cut out the birds. I use the master sheet and print them out using ink that matches Stampin' Up! colors. You can find the RGB color codes online for every Stampin' Up! color. Click HERE to see what RGB codes that can easily be found on the internet. Most people aren't aware that this information is available, all you have to do is think out of the box and take stamping to a new level.

Hate punching? Do your wrists bother you? I created a BSNC file of the branch by using my Bird Builder punch. Sit back, put your feet up and let your Brother ScanNCut do all the work. I do not sell Stampin' Up! stamped images. I purchased the stamps, dies and punches for my personal use. This is an example of what you can do with a Brother ScanNCut machine. You need to put THIS on your Christmas Wishlist on Amazon. Check out the BSNC machines and accessories I use HERE (I own two differents models). Be sure to purchase correct accessories for your machine.  You can find so many resources on YouTube to get you started using the machine, it takes time but it is so worth it.

Unfortunately most of the patterns in this DSP are awful. By far the worse DSP ever. Just being blunt.
