Laying out and cutting your Designer Series Paper

I have created card kits and scrapbooks from SU Simply Scrappin’ Kits. To maximize the amount of cuts from the paper in the kits, I developed this spreadsheet. It is most helpful to use this as you start to cut into that precious few sheets of paper in the kit; one wrong cut and you can basically destroy an entire 12 x 12 piece of paper. As we all know…the DSP in the kits are not available separately.

After using and editing this spreadsheet to fit your cuts, it will come in handy when you prepare kits for a class or for purchase.

Besides using this spreadsheet, I sometimes cut scraps of paper the sizes needed and arrange them on top of the 12 x 12 DSP. The spreadsheet helps retain the information for future uses.

You have to understand how to use Excel. I did place instructions within this file…I hope it is helpful.

Please leave a comment if you find this file useful. If you have any comments or suggestions for improvement....please let me know.

Quick and Easy Cards

I created these cards, each taking only ten minutes.

Stampin' Up! Products
  • Card bases - 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
    • Kiwi Kiss
    • Tempting Turquoise
  • Designer Series Paper - 5 1/2" x 2"
    • Raspberry Tart
    • Rainbow Sherbert
  • Cardstock
    • Rose Red and Regal Rose
    • Tempting Turquoise and Green Galore
  • Whisper White - 5 1/2" x 1 1/2" for scallop trim border
  • Punches
    • Small Oval, Large Oval and Scallop Oval
    • 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" Circle, Scallop Circle and Boho Blossoms
    • Scallop Trim Border
  • Stamp Sets
    • Always in My Thoughts
    • Thinking Happy Thoughts
    Other Products
    • Flower brads
    • Satin ribbon
Helpful Hint - When tieing a bow around a card, to get a tight fit, sometimes the cardstock tears.  To correct this and to get a better looking bow/knot, I made cardboard templates in various widths.  For a 5 1/2" width card, my template is cut slightly smaller - 5 3/8".  I tie the bow/knot around the template, slip it off the template, slightly bend the card base and slip the ribbon on.

    Summer Picnic Cards

I wanted to use the cute fabric brads I purchased from BL.  I like how this set of four cards and holder turned out.

    Stampin' Up! Products
    • Summer Picnic (Designer Series Paper) DSP
    • Coordinating cardstock:  Bashful Blue, Old Olive and Real Red
    • 1" and 1 1/4" round punches
    • 5-petal Flower and  Extra Large Fancy Flower punches

    • Dimensionals
    Other Products
    • Red and white striped grosgrain ribbon
    • Fabric covered brads
    • Envelopes for 3" x 3" card

Wrap it up, tie it with a bow...great hostess gift.

    Directions
    1. Using the 1 1/4" circle punch, punch out the center of a 3" x 3" card
    2. Attach the 3" x 3" DSP to front of card
    3. Punch through the DSP using the 1 1/4" circle punch
    4. Using the 1 1/4" circle punch, punch out a circle using Real Red cardstock (Real Red punch out will not be used in this project)
    5. Using the Extra Large Fancy Flower punch, center the flower over the previously punched circle
    6. Using the 5-Petal Flower punch punch out a group of three leaves
    7. Place the leaves cutout in the 1 1/4" circle punch and punch so that you have the curvature of the circle
    8. Glue leaves cutout to front of card
    9. Glue Fancy Flower cutout to the front of the card
    10. Stamp a sentiment from the Circle of Friendship stamp set
    11. Punch out sentiment using the 1" circle punch
    12. Place fabric covered brad through the center of the sentiment cutout
    13. Place dimensionals on the back of sentiment cutout
    14. Punch out 1 1/4" circle using coordinating cardstock, I used Bashful Blue
    15. Glue Bashful Blue circle inside card (centered)
    16. Attached sentiment cutout to the center of Bashful Blue circle

    Father's Day Card

I loved this card (posted by Carolyn Purcell) so much that I spent over two hours creating a FREE instruction sheet.  Click here for download link.

    Stampin' Up! Products
    • Kraft and Baja Breeze cardstock*
    • Parisian Breeze Specialty DSP
    • Chocolate Chip ink
    • Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set
    • Word Window and Modern Label punches
    Other Products
    • Brads
    • Glue dots (medium)
    • Tacky Tape (very stong adhesive)*
*I would suggest NOT using a textured cardstock for the shirt.  I have experienced lifting in the past when I used textured cardstock.  For this very reason, I used a Tacky Tape adhesive to secure collar and tie.

I wish I would have sponged the edges with Chocolate Chip ink.

    Paper Quilting

I am challenging myself to create different cards. This video inspired me to create this card. I wasn't happy with the center of the project until I added a flower center.

    Stampin' Up! Products
    • Melon Mambo, Bashful Blue, Old Olive and Pretty in Pink cardstock
    • Welcome Neighbor DSP
    • Melon Mambo ink
    • Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set
    • Word Window, Modern Label, Boho Blossoms, Flower Trio and 1 1/4" square punches
    • Movers and Shapers die for the laying behind the Modern Label
    • Pretty in Pink 1/2" ribbon
    • Mat Pack for faux stitching
    • Dimensionals
    Other Products
    • Rhinestone (iron on)
Here is a little variation - I used a smaller square punch (1 1/8") and placed a brad in the center.
Here is another quilt card - I cut 1" squares.
