IMPORTANT: Using Stitched Rectangle Dies - Stampin' Up! and Sizzix departed their friendship sometime between 2019-2020 Catalog and 2021-2022 Catalog. That is when Stampin' Up! started to sell their own "Stitched Rectangle Dies". The dies I own are made by Sizzix and have the item number 148551 stamped into dies. If your set has the item number 151820 or does not have a item number stamped into the die, your dies my differ slightly in size. I don't own both sets so I can't compare the two. To make a long story short, your dies might not be the exact same size as mine and therefore my measurements may differ.

Using Card Maps Tip #2

It can be challenging to come up with new card styles. The best way I find is to take Card Maps, also known as Card Layouts and without hesitation…..and simple cut your BEAUTIFUL Designer Series Paper.  GASP!

When I first began using card maps I had to make different sized layers with paper.  I began keeping those layers and this has made card making so much easier.  Here is a picture of my MESSY card
layers.

CASEing - A Simple Tutorial

When I saw this card online (created by a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator named Claire), I knew it would be perfect for my Card Mission for the United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church of Jasper.

When I find a card online that I like, recreating the card can take some time and possibly waste of precious cardstock.  I use a very simple method to recreate the card.  Using inexpensive cardstock, I cut the cardstock layers to the size I think will work for the card.  I write the width and height on each piece cardstock and keep them as templates in a folder. It is so much easier to take the different size card templates I created (from my folder) to more accurately "guess" each card layer size.  Time Saver AND Paper Saver!

    • Card base measures 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
  • Basic Black cardstock
    • Layer measures 3 3/4" x 3 1/4"
    • Strip measures 1 1/2" x 4 1/4"
  • Old Olive cardstock
    • Strip measures 1 1/4" x 4 1/4"
  • Whisper White cardstock
    • Layer measures 3 1/2" x 3"
  • Fresh Vintage Stamp set

  • Scallop Circle and 1 1/4" x 1 3/8" Circle punches
  • Designer Jewels - Black Flourish
Other Products
  • Sentiments were created on my computer and printed on Whisper White cardstock and punched out

I also did the same card using Ballet Blue cardstock.  This time, I added a slight change - on the Old Olive strip (1 1/4" x 4 1/4") I stamped the image using Old Olive ink.  I also placed the sentiment layers at the bottom edge. Dimensionals were placed under the scallop circle punch.

*CASE means Copy and Share Everything.

I have also used various software programs to create my layer templates.  One program you can use is Stampin' Up!'s My Digital Studio.  I have more experience using Microsoft products and have used Microsoft Publisher to create my layer templates.  For those who are not familiar with Publisher, the simple cardstock layer template mentioned above is all you need to save time and money.

Introducing my Note Card Fun Fold Tutorial! - Big things come in small packages!

Do you have note card envelopes that you want to use up? At PIZZAZZ to your note card with my Note Card Fun Fold Tutorial.  My sister gifted me extra invitation envelopes and three weeks later, I finished creating ten ELEVEN fun fold cards using small card basis. The envelope size for the cards is known as an A1 envelope. These are the same envelopes included in Stampin' Up!'s Note Cards and Envelopes - 5 1/8" x 3 5/8". Some of my fun folds use larger card bases than those of SU's Note Cards and Envelopes.

This tutorial includes the following for ten fun folds
  • Measurements

Best Dad Ever - Joy Fold Card

Sometimes it takes me awhile to come up with a card.  Most times, I do end up wasting paper.  Even though this is frustrating, I find that the end result is worth the few pennies of cardstock.  This masculine card is a Joy Fold Card.  If you look at the picture you will see that there is a smaller card centered in the middle of the main card base.  I used a Hodgepodge Hardware to hold the smaller card closed.  The picture on the bottom shows the smaller card opened.

Stampin' Up! Products
  • Sahara Sand card base
    • Main card - 8 1/2" x 4 1/4" (scored at 5 1/2")

  • Best Dad Ever and Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp sets
  • Versamark ink
  • Clear Embossing Powder
  • Chocolate Chip ink
  • Decorative Label and Word Window punches
  • Dimensionals
  • Hodgepodge hardware
*I stamped in Versamark using the tie stamp (from the Best Dave Ever stamp set) onto cardstock, applied clear embossing powder and used a heat gun to set the embossing powder.  I then hand cut the ties out and used Dimensionals to attach them to the front of the card.

This card is available for purchase from me for $5.00 plus $1.25 shipping through Paypal.  Currently the card has Happy Father's Day; however, I can change it to Happy Birthday or Thinking of You.  If you wish to purchase this card, please email me.

That is when Stampin' Up! started to sell their own "Stitched Rectangle Dies". The dies I own are made by Sizzix and have the item number 148551 stamped into dies. Houndstooth Embossed Card

Inspired by a card designed by Sherrie Barron, I created this card.

Stampin' Up! Products
  • Riding Hood Red cardbase is 5 1/4" x 8" and then folded
  • Whisper White cardstock is cut at 4 1/4" x 2 1/8"
  • Night & Day Speciality Designer Series Paper (DSP) is cut at 3 7/8" x 1 1/2"
  • Scallop Trim Border punch
  • Riding Hood Red butterfly is cut using the Beautiful Wings Embosslit die
  • Happy Birthday (from the Well Scripted stamp set) is stamped in Basic Black
  • 3/16" Corner Rounder punch
  • Mini Glue Dots
Other Products
  • Ribbon
  • Houndstooth embossing folder

Directions
  1. The card front only is embossed using a houndstooth embossing folder.  A typical folded cardbase measures 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"; however, the embossing folder only accommodates 5 1/4" x 4".  That is one of the benefits of purchasing Stampin' Up! embossing folders, they are designed to emboss the entire card front of a 5 1/2" x 4" folded cardbase.
  2. Top layers - Whisper White cardstock is first cut at 4 1/4” x 2 1/8".  Using the Scallop Trim Border punch, I punched one side and then trimmed it down to 3 7/8" x 2 1/8" so that the punched border is centered perfectly.  I am bit of a perfectionist.
  3. Stamp Happy Birthday in the upper left hand corner
  4. Apply adhesive to the wrong side/bottom edge only of your Whisper White stamped piece.  Attached this piece to the DSP; exposing 3/4" of the DSP
  5. Round all four corners using the corner rounder punch
  6. Using your favorite method*, tie a knot in the ribbon and wrap it around
  7. Apply adhesive to the back of these layers and affix it to your card base
  8. Add a glue dot to the back of the butterfly and affix on card.
*Tying ribbon can be challenging.  I recently discovered two great videos on tying knots and bows.  Darlene created two fantastic videos showing different ways of tying ribbon.  You can view her videos here.  Please take the time to comment on Darlene's blog to show your appreciation of her sharing her talents with you.

Introducing the Tower Card

A great friend of mine asked me if I had ever seen a Tower Card.  She included pictures of cards she created in her email and boom....off I went to my craft room.  Thank you Donna for the inspiration!

I decided to create a template which took me HOURS!  Link is provided below. There are several YouTube videos out there, just hop on over there and see for yourself. I added one important step that helped me fold the card in the correct manner. My first card wasn't folded correctly that is why I created an additional four score lines in the card base. I highly suggest you make a sample or two.

The tutorial is FREE with your $25 Stampin' Up! purchase using my Hostess Code. My tutorial is also available for $3.95.

  1. Cut a piece measuring 5/8" x 3 7/8"
  2. Cut a piece measuring 5/8" x 3 7/8"
    • Cut 1" off each end, final result 5/8" x 1 7/8"
  3. Cut a piece measures 1 1/8" x 3 7/8"
  4. Cut a piece measuring 5/8" x 3 7/8"
    • Cut 1" off each end, final result 5/8" x 1 7/8"
  5. Cut a piece measuring 5/8" x 3 7/8"
